Internet access/computers for student use
Considering the diverse needs of our students, we are committed to tackling the digital disparities between households. We expanded our 1:1 device program, and children grades TK–8 have take-home devices with the tools needed to work from home. Technology is a powerful tool for engaging students and enhancing learning in the classroom. It is also crucial that our students are prepared with technology skills and knowledge for high school, and ultimately, the workforce.
Chromebooks are distributed to new students at the beginning of the school year. For issues with Chromebooks, please contact MVWSD Technology at 650-526-3252 or [email protected].

Securly: Monitoring online activities
MVWSD provides a tool to help parents be aware of their student’s online activities. Schools use Securly to keep students safe on their school-issued devices. This application allows you to see what choices your student is making online so that you will be alerted to potential issues and can guide your student. Please note: Securly is for school-issued devices only; not your student’s cell phone, family iPad, etc. Securly will give reports for online activity on your child’s district-issued device that occurs off school grounds. You will not get reports for online activity at school.
There are two ways to view your child’s activity at your convenience:
* To enter the web-based Parent Portal, simply click on the "view more" link or the “sign up” link at the bottom of your weekly email. If you don’t sign up, you will still receive the weekly Securly email. If you do not want the Securly email, you may choose “unsubscribe.”
* Parent access to the mobile-responsive SecurlyHome App.
Step 1: Download the SecurlyHome App
Get SecurlyHome on the go. Real-time activity reports, right in the palm of your hand. Download from the Apple store or Android store.
Step 2: Open the App and click on the “send me a link” button.
* A link will be sent to the email address you have registered with your child’s school.
* Once you’ve clicked the link, you’ll be taken to the SecurlyHome App. Your account is ready to go!
Step 3: Explore and Configure
SecurlyHome lets you access your account information from anywhere, in real-time.
* Get Started
Navigate and explore different views into your child's online safety.
* Activity
Get a real-time view of your child's online activity.
* Flagged
Flags searches and sites that are related to bullying, self-harm, or suicide. Also flags posts on Facebook and Twitter.
Pausing the internet
* To set schedules for when the internet is active on your child's school device and for the days and times the internet is "paused," please see the "offline schedules" portion of the app.

You can opt out of Securly’s Parent emails by clicking "unsubscribe" at the bottom of the email
Your school is not able to assist with Securly-specific questions, so please email [email protected]. If you have questions or concerns about your student’s safety at school, please contact your principal.
Parents can help support and supervise appropriate technology usage at home in several ways. Please ask your student about how she or he uses the Chromebook and when. Consider digital citizenship lessons for your student and resources for you on commonsensemedia.org.
How parents can help:
Parents can support and supervise appropriate technology usage at home in several ways.
-
Please ask your student about how she or he uses the Chromebook and when. Please help your student care for his/her device by keeping it safe and charged. Students are responsible for the care and charging of their Chromebooks.
-
Know that email has been disabled for grades K-5. The District has safety blockers for inappropriate content and red flags (that alert the MVWSD Technology Department) for inappropriate searches.
-
Consider digital citizenship lessons for your student and resources for you on commonsensemedia.org
-
Ensure that middle schoolers have an accessible Internet connection at home. (If there’s no Internet, qualifying families can sign up for the Internet Essentials program. Please email Jon Aker.)
