Residents value good schools as an essential community service. MVWSD provides educational excellence at a bit of a disadvantage, however. Some of MVWSD’s revenue comes from the Shoreline Regional Park Community, a special tax district that redirects tax revenue from MVWSD to the City. The City redistributes some money back to the schools, but it is only a portion of MVWSD’s entire share.
Perspectives on Shoreline
Building a Strong City-Schools Partnership for Our Community
Laura Blakely, Board of Trustees
“Investing in current and future students with additional Shoreline funds does not mean defunding City initiatives. We all love and use Shoreline Park, and it has come a long way since its inception in 1983. The City can maintain its investment there, while making whole MVWSD and the Mountain View Los Altos High School District with the revenue originally slated for each school district.”
