Board meeting review: California School Dashboard

School Dashboard logo
The California School Dashboard is a visual representation of performance for all schools across the state. It helps parents and staff identify areas of strength and target areas that need additional support in districts and schools. Some of the areas of focus include academic performance, as well as behavior and absenteeism.

The Dashboard shows MVWSD continues to have overall high ratings in English Language Arts and Math, although many student groups - such as English Learners, Socio-Economically Disadvantaged students, Students with Disabilities and Hispanic/Latino students - are still struggling. Chronic Absenteeism is declining overall and for all groups except for Students with Disabilities and Asian students.

MVWSD is already hard at work focusing on the strategies that brought success before the pandemic, such as Response to Instruction to help students with their individual needs, targeted language support for English Learners, and professional development for teachers. The District is developing its MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) that will further help schools use data to inform instructional decisions for the benefit of individual learners.

The Dashboard presentation and report is here. To view the dashboard, click here.

School greening process: New trees!

Vargas treesMVWSD is on the path to becoming a greener, more environmentally-conscious district. The District is currently greening campuses and outdoor learning spaces because we believe these sustainable, cool spaces promote holistic learning experiences. As an example, new trees are going in now at Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary to replace those that were removed due to safety concerns. These mature, native saplings will provide much-needed shade, and are part of MVWSD’s wider greening initiative.
