Thank you

I feel grateful for our community. On Wednesday, we asked that students and staff start wearing masks again indoors due to our first instances of COVID transmission within our classrooms since the pandemic began. Even though we are all so weary of Covid and its challenges, I appreciate the responsiveness of our students, staff and families. Your action has prevented more students and staff members from getting sick. I am grateful for your flexibility and for making safety a priority.

Choosing to reinstate masking as a preventative measure wasn’t an easy choice.  But I think that we all agree that doing what it takes to keep our doors open for students is in their best interest, which is why we are so blessed to be in a community that is understanding, patient and committed to the wellbeing of every student.  Stay safe and well.

Superintendent

May 15-21 (3rd week of May) is Classified School Employee Week; a time when we celebrate the essential roles classified employees play in the lives of students and families. We are grateful for our food service employees, bus drivers, office staff members, custodians, maintenance and landscaping staff members, instructional assistants, therapists, tutors, psychologists, testers, EL coordinators, library technicians, nurses, at-risk intervention supervisors, school and community engagement facilitators and noon duty assistants. Thank you, staff members!

Staff, among other "treats," please look for lunch to be delivered to your site on one day between May 2-10. We will email you that day before lunch arrives in the staff room.

MVWSD is a Pivotal Award winner!

MVWSD has been selected as a 2022 California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Award Program winner by the California Department of Education for many aspects of its Return to Learn plan. Only nine schools/ districts in Santa Clara County were selected for the award.

In 2020-21, MVWSD provided:

  • Live synchronous instruction 4 days a week, through devices and internet for all students, in a schedule that mirrored a typical school day.
  • Support with technology and social-emotional/ mental health
  • More than 800,000 free meals during the 2020-21 school year and collaborated with community agencies to provide food pantries twice monthly at our Title I schools.
  • support with student attendance through the Student Re-engagement Plan

The California Pivotal Practice Award Program was designed to celebrate districts that implemented an innovative practice when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Program is being utilized by California in place of the California Distinguished Schools Program.

High Fives: Reclassification

Congratulations to our 130 students who worked very hard to be successfully reclassified as English Proficient this school year! They were celebrated with a lively Reclassification event on Thursday night. As a group, these achievers speak more than 20 different languages, in addition to English. MVWSD is proud of our students, and grateful for all of the families, teachers, and school staff who supported them along the way! You can see some pictures of the event here.
