Return to Learn: MVWSD Reopening Plan

Return to learn graphic

Dear Parents,

Due to COVID-19, I know that this upcoming school year has anxiety mixed in with the typical start-of-year jitters. The health of our students, staff members, our families and those who depend on us is priority one. I want to update you on the hard work that has happened this summer to ensure the safety of all of us, the best that we can. Even though we are opening in 100% distance learning, we are preparing as if we are returning to campus soon. These preparations ensure that we are ready to welcome students into classrooms when it’s safe to do so and protect our employees who come to campus for work.

The changes that we have been talking about all summer are taking shape. You will notice signage, checklists and other visuals that show MVWSD looks different as we act differently to slow the spread of COVID-19. Just this week, we posted “Return to Learn: MVWSD School Reopening Plan” on Please click here for the entire Reopening Plan document, or on the links below for individual sections. This week, join us at the Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday night and at our Community Check-In at 3:30 on Friday as we talk again about these plans.

While not an exhaustive list, here are some actions that we are taking to make this year the best it can be:

Reopening Checklist that principals and department heads will update and post online weekly so that you can view and track our progress.

* Rigorous academics with live instruction, grades and feedback and more teacher check-ins

* Student meals at all campuses (full price, free and reduced price)

* Chromebooks and internet for all students

* Signage reminding everyone of social distancing and good hygiene

* Regular handwashing and sanitizing

* Social distancing for employees and visitors

* Plastic shields for employees who are public-facing

* Free, required COVID testing for all employees on a regular basis

* Protocols for what to do when people get sick and when they can return

* Everyone on campus will wear a mask (provided by MVWSD if needed)

* Intensive cleaning and disinfection of classrooms and offices

* New MERV 13 air filters

* Limiting shared supplies, areas and kitchens

* No in-person volunteers

* Childcare for essential workers

I am thankful for our staff, parents, and administrators who shared their ideas, hopes and concerns that became the basis of our reopening plan.

Respectfully,

Dr. Ayindé Rudolph

Superintendent
