picture of Rebecca WestoverDr. Rebecca Westover, current principal of Stevenson Elementary, will be the District’s new Chief Business Officer. She has been the principal of Stevenson for four years, during which time she introduced and implemented professional learning communities and professional development that positively impacted teachers’ instructional knowledge and practices. Before Stevenson, she was the assistant principal of Jordan Middle School (Palo Alto) and has taught science at Castro Valley High School and served as a science specialist at Newport Mesa Unified School District. She has a bachelor’s degree with a minor in economics and master’s degree from Gonzaga University, and Ed.D. from the University of LaVerne.

picture of Ryan SantiagoRyan Santiago will be the new principal of Stevenson Elementary. He has been an assistant principal at Graham Middle School, where he was the lead principal for the sixth-grade class, the contact for community partners’ after school programs, and focused on instructional practices, specifically Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP). Prior to Graham, he was the principal at Theuerkauf Elementary for three years. During his time there, the new RTI program was developed.  Before becoming principal, he taught for five years in first and third grade at Theuerkauf and was an instructional coach at Theuerkauf, Monta Loma, Huff, and Landels for three years. He also taught at Peninsula Christian Schools (Redwood City). He has a master’s degree from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State.

miguel espinozaMiguel Espinoza will be the principal of Huff Elementary. He was the Principal at Josephine Chrysler Elementary School in the Stanislaus Union Elementary School District for three years. He also worked as an academic dean/assistant principal in the Ravenswood City School District (East Palo Alto) in pre-TK through eighth grade in Spanish Dual Immersion and Title I schools. Mr. Espinoza, a bilingual educator, began his career in the Los Angeles Unified School District and Corona-Norco Unified School District as a classroom teacher in grades one through six for 10 years. He has a master’s degree from UC Riverside focused on teaching and a second master’s degree from UCLA’s Principal Leadership Institute, with a focus on social justice leadership. 

picture of Vern TaylorVernorris Taylor is the new principal of Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary. Mr. Taylor has been in MVWSD for 11 years in a variety of roles, most recently as the Assistant Principal at Graham Middle School for two years. After participating in the Stanford University Teacher Education Program at Landels Elementary as a student teacher in 2007, he taught fourth grade at Castro Elementary and summer school. Mr. Taylor became an instructional coach in 2014-15, and served as a coach for teachers at Theuerkauf, as well as a new teacher support provider and District instructional coach. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University. 

picture of Mariko KobataMariko Kobata, currently District Special Education Coordinator since 2016 and an educator with extensive middle school experience, will be the new assistant principal at Graham Middle School. Ms. Kobata came to MVWSD in 2002 as a special education teacher at Graham, and later taught at Huff Elementary. Before MVWSD, she worked as a special education teacher for six years at the middle school level. She has a bachelor’s degree from University of Nevada and a master’s in educational administration from the University of Phoenix.
