The Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF) with the Mountain View Whisman School District, is excited to announce a one-time $100,000 coding grant from Google.org to help bring coding to the students in the Mountain View Whisman School District (MVWSD).

The funding from this grant will support a multi-school computer science program, enabling the district to train teachers and empower students to learn coding and computer science through a combination of:

● In-depth coding teacher professional development
● Multi-year coding curriculum pathway (grades 3-8) of rigorous and differentiated coding courses.
● Cross-curricular integration of coding into math and science.

MVWSD has chosen to partner with TechSmart, a provider of K-12 coding & computer science education. The District will be working with individual schools on implementation plans with the goal to roll out the program at several schools next year.

“As a diverse school district located in Mountain View at the heart of the Silicon Valley, we believe computer science and coding education is critically important to prepare our students for college, career, and life success in a computing-intensive world,” said MVWSD Superintendent Dr. Ayindé Rudolph. “The Board of Trustees, staff and MVEF has a collective desire to focus on science, technology, engineering and math education. We found synergy through this grant to bring coding to our students.”

This grant will add to the programming that MVEF has already committed to funding for the district this school year. MVEF is half-way toward its annual fundraising goal of $750K which provides programming for that includes arts, music, athletics, hands-on science for all district students, and is seeking donations. In addition to the coding grant, Google has committed $50,000 for this annual appeal, continuing a long-time tradition of supporting the Mountain View Educational Foundation.

“We are grateful for the Google’s support of our programs and community,” said Melissa Armanini, Executive Director, MVEF. “This grant will enable us to help enhance students’ computer literacy skills in today’s technological environment.”
